Letting Go
It had been several months since the destruction of Incognito and the fall of Hellsing. The four remaining members were in hiding. It was Alucard who rescued Integra and Walter from prison and reunited them with himself and his servant Victoria. They'd found an abandoned house in Mannchester. As long as no one came around during the night time they were safe. It would have been terribly uncomfortable for Alucard and Victoria if the thing hadn't had a basement. That is where they had to stay during the long day light hours. The house was full of windows that let sunshine in from practically every room. The sun was just rising. Time for Alucard and Victoria to retire to the basement for the day. They bid Integra and Walter good morning and left for the basement. Victoria lay down on the bed Alucard made for her. Being a much older and more powerful vampire, he did not need to sleep as much during the day. He watched Victoria settle down on the bed and curl up. He could sense the restlessness inside of her. He'd already tried once to release her from servitude to him, but she would not drink from him. She wanted him to remain her master. But sooner or later she was going to have to free herself. He would not see her as a servant forever. She was meant for more than that. But how to make her understand what he wanted her to do. She was in love with him, and he knew it. There was respect between him and his master Integra. But he realized there was something more to his feelings for this young woman he'd saved. It was time for Victoria to let Alucard go as her master. It was time for her to become her own master, but how to convince her that this was the right thing for her. Victoria tried to close her eyes to sleep, but sleep would not come. She lay tossing and turning. Alucard walked over to her bedside and sat down beside her. She turned once again and found him sitting beside her.
"Master?" She asked.
"Police girl, there is something that must happen between us now. I know you want me to remain as your master, but you must understand it is not meant for me to be your master forever. You are meant for more greatness than you have now." Alucard said.
"Master, please don't say that. I don't want to leave you." Victoria protested.
Alucard sighed then began to speak. "I know that you feel right now you will always want to be at my side, but there will come a day when you will be in the position I am in now, and you will become a master to someone else." Alucard replied.
"No!" Victoria began to cry.
"Police girl, there's no need for such hysterics. Whom you chose to remain with will be up to you. But it is time for you to gain your independence as a vampire. I know you feel you're not ready, but there comes a time when the parent must push the fledgling from the nest so it can learn to fly. You are a vampire, but until you have gained your freedom you cannot know what it is to be true undead. I want more for you than being my servant. You need to become your own master now. It is time for you to become true family. I know you think I'm doing this to be rid of you, but that is simply not true. It does not mean that there is no room in that heart for you police girl. If you have doubts that I care about you, then put those doubts to rest." Alucard said.
Victoria started wiping away her tears with her arm. "You do?" Victoria asked.
"If I did not have love in my heart for you, could I have given you the immortality you now have? It's time for you to know what immortality really is. As long as you are a servant you cannot know your true powers and strength. I do not want to see you weak and sick. I wan to see you strong and powerful as you should be. What you chose to do after you are free is up to you. You will be in control of yourself as you should be. I know people always treated you like a child, but you have grown in my eyes. It's time for you to take this final step and become a full fledged vampire. Do you understand?" Alucard asked.
Victoria looked up at him. "Yes."
"When I feed from my enemies I see them as nothing more than that, food. Their blood sustains my hunger. I do not need or want their permission to drink from them. But you did not ask to be put in the situation you found yourself in. You did not deserve to die, and I did not see it right that a spirit like yours should come to such a senseless and wasteful end. I could sense in you the will to fight even though you were at death's door. You have accepted me the way so many do not. To most humans I'm nothing more than a heartless, inhuman monster who should be destroyed without second thought. You gave me your trust and your devotion without question. I know sometimes I am stern with you, but it is only because I had to be. When you didn't drink your body became weak, and you suffered because of it." Alucard explained.
"I can't see one such as you so weak when you should be as strong as you can be. That is why I allowed you to watch me kill an enemy of Hellsing and feed upon her. I had to make you understand what can happen if you don't drink. Your body not only becomes weak but the hunger takes control over you. Then you would have done something you would regret not just for life, but for eternity. I do not regret killing to take blood. It is my nature and it always has been. Humans will never understand me. But when you saw me for what I really was, you still called me master and stayed at my side. There are those who would have begged for death after seeing me kill to obtain the blood I need. I do not regret killing my enemies. But I know that you are not the same way. You must accept your nature. If you don't you'll be driven into maddness. I do not want to see that happen to you. Sometimes I must drink from a living source. That is my nature, as it will become yours when you drink from me." He finished.
"I know master, but it's so hard for me to accept that fact. I know I'm not human anymore, but there is still that tiny part of me that makes me believe as though I were." Victoria replied.
"I know. That is why I teach you this now. There may come the day when we are apart, and I am not there to show you these things. You may become a master to someone as I am your master. And then you will have to explain to your companion the things I now tell to you. Pride was my downfall and it allowed me to be turned into a servant to humans. But I do not regret Integra being my master. She brought out a part of myself that I thought had died a long time ago. Feelings which have become stronger because of you." Alucard said.
"This is for the best, Seras. You need to do this. I did not force the embrace upon you, and I won't force you to drink from me now. I will understand if you need time to think. Time was the one thing I did not give you before. I owe that to you now." Alucard said and began to get up from the bed.
"Master, you're right. It is time for me to do this. I was so afraid of you bringing this up again because I thought maybe you didn't want me anymore. I was afraid of you pushing me out of your life once I was free of servitude to you." Victoria said lowering her head. Alucard sat back down beside her and tilted her face up to meet his. "I know. Having you around makes this dark and lonely existance of mine worth while again."
"I don't know that I could ever love anyone else the way I love you master." Victoria said.
"You feel that way now, but in time you may find someone who will come to feel the same way about you. You may come to find someone whom you love differently than you love me. You entrusted your life with me that night in the church when I turned you. Trust me now when I tell you this is for the best." Alucard said.
"I understand master. I'm ready." Victoria responded.
"Are you sure? Is this truly what you want?" Alucard asked.
"If I don't do it now, I may never be ready again. I am ready master." Victoria answered. Alucard undid the collar of his shirt exposing his neck. He cut into his flesh with his fingernail. A stream of crimson began to flow.
"Drink my blood, and you will be free." He said. Victoria leaned her head in close to her master's neck and latched her mouth onto the bleeding wound. She began to take Alucard's blood into herself. "Yes, drink my child. Drink and become strong." He said in an almost orgasmic trance.
For a moment she stayed latched onto his throat drinking from the wound. "Stop Seras. You must stop now." He gasped. Victoria relunctantly let go from feeding and watched the wound close. Alucard fell to the floor. Victoria began to feel a burning inside of her. Alucard's blood began to course through her body.
"Alucard..." she gasped. Having caught his breath Alucard looked up to see Victoria shivering.
"Don't be afraid Seras. It's my blood becoming part of you." He said. "It will pass. It will pass as quickly as it came."
A few more moments passed and they both found themselves calm once again. Alucard got to his feet and sat back down beside Victoria. "It felt like fire going through me." Victoria said.
"It is natural for the blood of one as old and powerful as myself to burn inside of one as young as you. That is why I had to stop you from taking anymore. Take in too much at once and the power can become too much for you just. You should rest now. You've gone through a very powerful thing, and your body will need time to recover from it. When you have rested I will start teaching you how to control your powers." Alucard said.
"What powers do I have?" Victoria asked.
"Powers like my own. But those are things you will learn about later on. For now you need to rest. Soon you will be ready to become your own master. Go to sleep Seras." Alucard said.
Victoria decided now was not the time to ask anymore questions. She needed to rest as Alucard told her. She closed her eyes and drifted off into a hybernation like sleep. Alucard continued to watch over her while she slept. She was no longer his servant. Her destiny was no longer in his hands. Part of him felt like a proud parent finally seeing his child grow up. Yet there was a part of him that had been relunctant to let her go as his servant. He knew now he would have to let her go if she decided to be with another. He thought he could do that easily in the beginning, but now it would be hard to say goodbye if she left him. He found himself suddenly worried if she would leave him. But that would now be her choice. Alucard tried to shake the thought out of his head. She didn't belong to him anymore. He would have to let her go if she chose to leave. But he found the question resounding in his head over and over. What would he do if she left him?
"I'm not ready to leave you Alucard."
Alucard heard her voice in his head. "You've learned to speak to me with your mind. You're catching on fast. You are no longer my servant, but will always be my little police girl." He responded.
